Hair ReplacementIt’s an age-old problem that affects both men and women, and can really reduce the quality of life for many self-conscious people…hair loss. Over the years, people suffering from premature hair loss – and even those suffering from natural hair loss as they age – have tried a number of hair replacement products. At first, people had to make do with wigs and toupees, but over recent years we have seen a vast range of hair replacement solutions come on to the market, from lotions and potions to creams and pills. Of course, not all of them work as effectively as they say, and some may not work at all. However, the continual development in hair replacement products certainly increases the chances of finding a product that will work on an individual basis. Hair loss can be caused by a number of factors. The most common, of course, is age, and we all start to lose hair as we grow older. It can also be the result of a medical conditions (alopecia), stress, and damage caused to the hair follicle (e.g. burns). There are plenty of myths that surround hair loss, such as poor circulation to the scalp or dandruff, but these have already been proven incorrect. Of course, the first thing to do if you experience excessive hair loss is to consult a medical professional. Hair loss can result from illness or disease, and it is important that your doctor rules out any sinister causes before you start thinking about hair replacement solutions. If you are considering hair replacement, there are a number of options available. You can select from options such as: Hair piecesThe hair piece is an option for someone that wants temporary hair replacement, for example if you are attending a special occasion. These are simply places on the head and secured by elastic. You can get some very realistic and professional looking hair pieces these days, and the quality of some of these pieces cannot be faulted. These hair pieces can be put on and removed by the wearer. Hair systemThe hair system is a longer term variation of a hair piece. It is secured in a different manner, and is designed to be worn for a number of weeks without removal. It is fitted and removed by a professional, and can look and feel very realistic and high quality. You will also receive details on cleaning your hair and maintenance when you go for a hair replacement system, so you can keep in looking in great condition. Hair replacement products, pills, and lotionsThese days you can get all sorts of creams and lotions that claim to help with hair loss or thinning hair. Some are designed to simply conceal the scalp, which can prove useful to those with thinning hair. Other products claim to eliminate hair loss and promote growth of new hair. Over recent years, we have seen an improvement in these products, and hopefully this improvement will continue with advancements. Medication is available that can slow down hair loss and can also increase the density of the hair, and this may be available via prescription (ask your doctor for his recommendation) or over the counter. SurgeryAnother options is hair replacement surgery, which employs a follicular unit grafting procedure to graft healthy areas of the scalp to areas where hair growth has ceased. This can prove very effective, although it is obviously the more expensive option when it comes to hair replacement treatment. This procedure can take a few hours, and is performed under anaesthetic. The graft areas are usually bandaged overnight, and all being well any stitched are removed after a one week period.
